Acceptable Use Policy

Dear Family,

Hite-Saunders Elementary will make every effort to educate your child to help your son/daughter on the appropriate use of the computer and Internet. The Department of Education has a filtering system in place for the Internet that so far has filtered out objectionable material, but we cannot guarantee that he/she will not come across inappropriate materials. The staff at Hite-Saunders will report any site that wasn’t properly filtered. We ask your assistance in developing responsible attitudes,reinforcing appropriate behaviors, and of serving security practices on the network. The students will receive instruction to properly find and utilize the information.    

* Only Login using your name and password

* Take care of all computer equipment. Treat it with respect.

* When you login be sure to ask your teacher what or where he/she would like you to do or go.

*Follow all safety rules that were taught to you. Should you get on an objectionable site, immediately tell your teacher and get off the site.

* Do not download any thing to the school’s computer without permission from your teacher.

*If the teacher does have “Internet Pals” (sometimes a class is matched with another class somewhere in the nation thru Weekly Reader or another pre-approved service), Netiquette will be observed. Any violation will be result in loss of privileges.

* Be aware of copyright laws and what you may or may not download.

Internet and the use of computers in the classroom is a privilege with responsibility of both the student and the teacher. Violation of the above simple rules could result in a loss of this privilege.

For Internet Usage

I have read the Acceptable Use Policy for Hite-Saunders Elementary and understand that:

* The use of the Internet is a tool and access is for school-related purposes.

* No student should have any expectation of privacy as to Internet usage.

* Do not download or copy anything to the computer from Internet without permission from the teacher.

* No student will be permitted to use the Internet without parent/guardian signing this Parental Permission Form.

*Inappropriate use of the Internet will result with the student not being able to access the Internet for the remaining of the school year at the discretion of the teacher, principal, and system’s operator.

As a parent or guardian, I have read the Acceptable Use Policy for Hite-Saunders Elementary and understand that access is designed for educational purposes. I have discussed the use of the Internet with my child and have reviewed the Acceptable Use Policy with_____________________________. (Child’s full name) I also understand that even though the West Virginia Department of Education has a WWW filtering system in place for my child’s protection, the staff of Hite-Saunders Elementary will take every precaution to eliminate controversial materials. However, I recognize that it is impossible to restrict access to all controversial materials, and I will not hold the school responsible for the materials acquired on Internet. I hereby give permission for my child to become a user of the Internet while at school.
